Abdeslam Ouaddou Refuses to Underestimate Milford FC in Carling Knockout Clash
Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has welcomed the outcome of the Carling Knockout draw after the defending champions were handed a home fixture against Milford FC in the opening round of the competition.
The Buccaneers discovered their Round of 16 opponents during the official draw held in Fourways, Johannesburg, with the tie set to take place at the Orlando Amstel Arena. While pleased with the advantage of playing at home, Ouaddou made it clear that his side will not be taking anything for granted.
The Pirates mentor said playing in front of their supporters is always a positive factor for the team. He believes the backing of the home crowd can provide an important boost, particularly in a knockout competition where every detail can make a difference.
Despite Milford FC being newcomers to the top flight, Ouaddou was quick to dismiss any suggestion that the fixture would be straightforward. The coach described their opponents as a well-coached and highly disciplined side capable of causing problems for any team.
According to Ouaddou, Milford’s organisation and structure make them a dangerous opponent. He stressed that Pirates must show respect to every team they face and approach the match with the same level of seriousness they would against any established top-flight club.
The Pirates coach also spoke about the club’s ambitions in the competition, emphasising the importance of building on lessons learned from previous campaigns. As defending champions, he believes the team has a responsibility to perform at a high level and remain competitive throughout the tournament.
Preparation has already become a major focus for the technical team. Ouaddou acknowledged that gathering information on Milford presents certain challenges, particularly because they are still establishing themselves at the highest level, but revealed that the club is studying all available footage to prepare thoroughly.
While satisfied with the draw, Ouaddou insists the work has only just begun. The Pirates coach believes a strong performance will be required to overcome Milford FC and continue their title defence, as the Buccaneers set their sights on another successful Carling Knockout campaign.
