Orlando Pirates power past TTM to book Nedbank Cup Last 16 spot

Orlando Pirates marched into the Nedbank Cup Last 16 with a dominant 4-1 victory over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

The Buccaneers wasted no time asserting themselves, taking the lead in the ninth minute when Andre de Jong converted from the penalty spot after Oswin Appollis was brought down in the area. Just minutes later, Thalente Mbatha doubled the advantage with a long-range strike that deflected past the goalkeeper.

TTM clawed one back before half-time through Sithembiso Ngobe, whose clever free-kick from a tight angle beat the wall and nestled inside the near post.

Pirates, however, tightened their grip after the break. Patrick Maswanganyi restored the two-goal cushion with a composed finish, and Sipho Mbule added the fourth to seal a comprehensive win for the Soweto giants.

The result confirmed Pirates’ passage into the Last 16, with their attacking depth and clinical finishing once again on full display.
