Sasol congratulates Dr. Desiree Ellis on Hall of Fame induction
Sasol proudly congratulates Dr. Desiree Ellis on her well-deserved induction into the Hall of Fame. This prestigious recognition is a testament to her contributions to the growth and development of women’s football in South Africa.
From captaining Banyana Banyana between 1994 and 2002 to her transformative leadership as head coach since 2018, Dr. Ellis, affectionately known as Coach Des, has shaped the path of the sport. Under her guidance, Sasol Banyana Banyana achieved historic milestones, including the crowning moment of winning the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and advancing to the last 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Coach Des’s passion for football extends far beyond the pitch. Her dedication to nurturing talent was evident during the Sasol League Provincial Playoffs this year, where she conducted impactful coaches’ workshops. These sessions demonstrated her commitment to empowering others and fostering a brighter future for women’s football in South Africa.
Nozipho Mbatha, Sasol’s Senior Manager for Sponsorship and Brand, said: “It has been an absolute privilege to witness Coach Desiree Ellis’s remarkable journey and her tireless efforts in coaching the national team. Her passion for football and for inspiring others to ‘Live the Impossible’ is truly unmatched. We at Sasol are proud to have supported her in creating lasting legacies for women’s football.”
We celebrate this incredible accolade for Coach Des and look forward to many more groundbreaking achievements in her illustrious career.
