Marumo Gallants Usher in New Era with Filemon Ronny Kananelo at the Helm

Marumo Gallants F.C. have confirmed the appointment of Filemon Ronny Kananelo as their new head coach, a move aimed at stabilising the club after a turbulent start to the season. The announcement, made on 14 September 2026 in Johannesburg, was accompanied by the statement: “Marumo Gallants F.C. is pleased to announce the appointment of Filemon Ronny Kananelo as the Club’s new Head Coach.”

Kananelo’s football journey is steeped in achievement. As a former goalkeeper, he enjoyed success with Mamelodi Sundowns, lifting three league titles and several domestic trophies. His international career with Namibia saw him earn 53 caps and feature at the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations, cementing his reputation as a respected figure in Southern African football.

His coaching résumé is equally impressive, spanning clubs such as UNAM FC, Black Africa FC, Bucks Buccaneers FC, African Stars FC, Maritzburg United, and Bloemfontein Celtic. The club highlighted his international pedigree, noting: “He also served as part of the Namibia national team technical staff across several major international tournaments, including the 2008, 2019 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.”

Kananelo’s most recent success came with African Stars FC, where he guided the Namibian side to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. His coaching philosophy, built on discipline, tactical awareness, and player development, aligns with Gallants’ ambition to rebuild and compete at the highest level.

The timing of his appointment is critical. Marumo Gallants currently sit bottom of the Betway Premiership after six games, having won none, drawn two, and lost four. His first challenge will be to lift morale and prepare the squad for their upcoming clash against Orlando Pirates, a fixture that could set the tone for the rest of the campaign.

Kananelo’s CAF A Licence underscores his commitment to professional excellence. His structured approach to management is expected to bring stability and confidence to a team desperate for results. The club expressed optimism, stating: “Marumo Gallants F.C. welcomes Coach Kananelo and looks forward to his contribution as the Club continues to compete and build for the future.”

Supporters have already voiced cautious optimism, seeing Kananelo’s arrival as a potential turning point. His reputation for nurturing talent and instilling discipline could be the spark Gallants need to climb the table and restore belief among fans.

As the 2026/27 season unfolds, all eyes will be on Filemon Ronny Kananelo. His appointment is more than a managerial change; it represents Gallants’ determination to fight back from adversity and re-establish themselves as a competitive force in South African football.
