Richards Bay FC and Ronnie Gabriel Part Ways After Difficult Start to Season
Richards Bay FC have confirmed the departure of head coach Ronnie Gabriel following a disappointing start to the Betway Premiership season. Gabriel became the latest coaching casualty in the league after the club failed to register a victory in its opening matches, leaving the Natal Rich Boyz battling near the bottom end of the table.
The club announced the decision in an official statement on Thursday, confirming that the coach had stepped down from his role. Richards Bay stated: “Richards Bay Football Club is sad to announce that Head Coach Ronnie Gabriel has resigned from the club with immediate effect.”
While the club described the departure as a resignation, reports have suggested that Gabriel was under significant pressure after a difficult run of results. Richards Bay have endured a winless start to the campaign, collecting only three points from their opening six league fixtures.
The team’s record shows three draws and three defeats from six matches, highlighting the struggles that have plagued the club since the start of the season. Richards Bay have found the net seven times but have also conceded thirteen goals, exposing defensive issues that have contributed to their poor form.
Despite the disappointing results, the club paid tribute to Gabriel for his contribution during his time at Richards Bay. In the statement, the club said: “The Club expresses its sincere appreciation to coach Ronnie Gabriel for his dedication, professionalism and contribution during his tenure for the past seasons with the club as our Technical team member and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.”
The club’s position in the standings has increased pressure on management to find solutions quickly. Richards Bay currently occupy fourteenth place in the Betway Premiership table, a situation that has raised concerns as they look to avoid becoming further entrenched in a relegation battle.
With Gabriel’s departure now confirmed, attention has shifted to who will take charge of the team moving forward. The club indicated that plans are already underway regarding the coaching position and further announcements will follow in due course.
Richards Bay concluded their statement by assuring supporters that updates would be communicated when a replacement is identified. “Further updates on the new coach will be provided in due course.” The focus will now be on finding a new leader capable of turning around the club’s fortunes and guiding the team back up the Betway Premiership standings.
