Marumo Gallants Suffer as Orlando Pirates March On in #BetwayPrem Title Pursuit

Orlando Pirates strengthened their Betway Premiership title challenge with a solid 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday. The Buccaneers delivered a disciplined and clinical display to claim all three points, moving within touching distance of league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The crucial away victory sees Pirates climb to 19 points, just one point behind Sundowns, who remain at the summit on 20 points. With both teams showing strong early-season form, the result has added further intrigue to what is shaping up to be a thrilling title race.

For Marumo Gallants, however, the defeat deepened their struggles at the foot of the table. After seven matches, Gallants remain rooted to the bottom with just two draws and four defeats, continuing a difficult start to their campaign.

The match also marked the beginning of a new era for Gallants under newly appointed head coach Ronny Kanalelo. Having recently taken over from Phuti Mohafe, Kanalelo would have hoped for an immediate response from his players, but his first game in charge ended in disappointment against one of the league’s strongest sides.

The decisive moment arrived in the 73rd minute when Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi doubled the advantage. His goal effectively sealed the result and allowed the Buccaneers to manage the closing stages comfortably. Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou then rotated his squad, introducing Sebastian Pedersen, Mpho Padime, Oswin Appollis, Masindi Nemtajela and Neo Rapoo as the visitors saw out the match professionally.

At the final whistle, Pirates celebrated a vital 2-0 victory that keeps the pressure firmly on Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the standings. The Buccaneers continue to build momentum in the championship race, while Gallants and new coach Ronny Kanalelo are left searching for solutions as their difficult season shows little sign of improving.
