Bafana Bafana Arrive in Egypt as Pitso Mosimane Targets Back-to-Back AFCON Wins

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that Bafana Bafana have safely arrived in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of their crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Eritrea. The national team heads into the encounter in high spirits following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday.

In an update released on Sunday, SAFA announced: “Bafana Bafana arrive safely in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of their CAF AFCON 2027 Qualifier against Eritrea.” The squad wasted little time in travelling to North Africa as preparations intensified for their next Group assignment.

Newly appointed head coach Pitso Mosimane enjoyed a dream start to his second permanent stint in charge of the national team. Goals from Ime Okon and Samukele Kabini secured all three points against Guinea, giving Mosimane the perfect platform to begin a new chapter with Bafana Bafana.

The win over Guinea showcased South Africa’s growing confidence and resilience. Bafana Bafana displayed immense tactical discipline throughout the match and successfully absorbed late pressure from the visitors, underlining the team’s determination and ability to manage high-pressure situations.

SAFA also confirmed the details of the upcoming fixture, stating: “The South Africa senior men’s national team will face Eritrea at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.” Another positive result would significantly strengthen South Africa’s position in the race for qualification to the continental tournament.

Eritrea will host South Africa at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo, a neutral venue approved for the fixture because Eritrea currently does not have a stadium that meets the infrastructure and hosting requirements set by CAF.

Bafana Bafana will be aiming to build on their winning start and maintain momentum under Mosimane as they continue their quest to reach the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
