Durban City FC’s Nedbank Cup Success Creates Lasting Legacy for Chatsworth School
Durban City FC’s memorable Nedbank Cup triumph is continuing to make a positive impact off the field after the club officially handed over a brand-new multipurpose sports court at Ocean View Primary School in Chatsworth on Tuesday. The handover ceremony was attended by representatives from the Premier Soccer League, The Sports Trust, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and other key stakeholders committed to youth development through sport.
The project was made possible through Nedbank’s community legacy initiative linked to the Nedbank Cup. As winners of the 2026 edition of South Africa’s premier cup competition, Durban City FC was given the opportunity to select a beneficiary school, with Ocean View Primary chosen to receive the new facility.
The modern sports court is expected to provide learners with a safe and vibrant space where they can participate in soccer, netball and a variety of other sporting and recreational activities. School officials believe the facility will play an important role in encouraging physical activity and nurturing sporting talent among young learners.
The handover marked another significant chapter in Durban City FC’s growing relationship with the community. The club has enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent years and has repeatedly emphasized the importance of giving back to the supporters who have been part of its journey.
Addressing the club’s official website, www.durbancityfc.com, Sponsorship Manager Tutu Ntuli said the club was determined to turn its historic Nedbank Cup triumph into a meaningful contribution for the community whose unwavering support played a significant role in the team’s success.
“When Durban City FC won the Nedbank Cup in May, we knew that a victory like this belongs to more than just the Club. It belongs to the community that stands behind us, and we wanted to give something back,” Ntuli said.
Ntuli added that the new facility should serve as a source of inspiration for the learners, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and make the most of every opportunity available to them through sport and education.
“This court is yours. Use it, respect it and look after it. Sport teaches us discipline, teamwork and resilience, and those are values that will take you far in life,” Ntuli added.
As part of the celebrations, Durban City FC also presented Ocean View Primary School with a signed commemorative Nedbank Cup jersey, giving the school a special reminder of the club’s historic cup-winning campaign. The club also thanked Nedbank and all partners who helped bring the project to life.
The handover also reflects the positive momentum surrounding Durban City FC both on and off the pitch. The club claimed the 2026 Nedbank Cup crown with a 2-1 win over TS Galaxy at Peter Mokaba Stadium before carrying that success into the CAF Confederation Cup, where they have continued to make a strong impression in their first-ever African club campaign.
