Isabella Ludwig Urges Banyana Banyana to Make Home Advantage Count

Banyana Banyana midfielder Isabella Ludwig says the team is determined to make a strong statement when they face Madagascar in their Olympic Games qualifier at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Ludwig addressed the media ahead of the highly anticipated encounter and revealed that the mood within the national team camp has been positive. The midfielder said the players are excited to be back together and fully focused on the important challenge that lies ahead.

The South African international emphasised the importance of securing a positive result in the opening leg. According to Ludwig, a strong performance would not only put Banyana Banyana in a favourable position but would also provide the coaching staff with greater tactical flexibility moving forward in the tie.

Ludwig made it clear that qualification for the Olympic Games remains the squad’s primary objective. She stressed that the players understand what is at stake and are committed to doing everything possible to keep South Africa’s Olympic dream alive.

The first-leg clash will be played under unusual circumstances after Madagascar, the designated home side, requested that the match be held behind closed doors. Although the fixture will take place in Bloemfontein due to Madagascar not having a CAF-compliant venue available, no supporters will be allowed inside the stadium.

Despite the absence of fans, Ludwig said the team continues to draw strength from the support it receives across the country. She expressed hope that supporters will continue rallying behind Banyana Banyana throughout the qualification campaign.

Beyond football matters, Ludwig also reflected on the significance of World Mental Health Month. She highlighted the importance of resilience, mental strength and maintaining a positive mindset, especially during demanding periods in professional sport.

The midfielder also shared a message of encouragement for young girls pursuing their dreams. Ludwig urged them to believe in their ability to overcome obstacles, reminding them that difficult moments are part of life’s journey and that perseverance can help them achieve their goals both on and off the field.
