MTN8 Glory Forgotten: Ricardo Goss Focused on Richards Bay FC Challenge

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ricardo Goss has revealed that the club has already put its recent MTN8 triumph behind it as attention turns to their Betway Premiership encounter against Richards Bay FC at Princess Magogo Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Fresh from celebrating cup success, Sundowns now face the challenge of maintaining their strong form in the league. Goss explained that while winning silverware was an important achievement for the club, the players understand the need to quickly shift their focus to the next assignment.

The experienced goalkeeper stressed that there has been no room for complacency within the Sundowns camp. According to Goss, the squad has embraced a professional mindset and is fully committed to preparing for the demanding fixture against Richards Bay.

Goss dismissed any suggestion that the team spent its time celebrating for an extended period after the final. Instead, he highlighted the discipline and standards that exist within the club, revealing that preparations for the upcoming league fixture began almost immediately after the cup final.

The goalkeeper believes this mentality is one of the reasons Sundowns continue to compete successfully across different competitions. He noted that every match presents a new challenge and requires complete focus regardless of what was achieved in the previous game.

Goss also took time to acknowledge the role played by supporters throughout the season. He explained that the energy from the stands can provide a major boost to players, particularly during difficult moments when fatigue begins to set in during matches.

The shot-stopper emphasized that hearing supporters sing and rally behind the team gives players additional motivation to keep pushing. He added that fan backing often makes a significant difference in helping the squad maintain its intensity levels throughout a game.

With Richards Bay now standing in their path, Goss has called on Sundowns supporters to turn out in large numbers and back the team once again. While the celebrations of the MTN8 success have come to an end, the goalkeeper insists the squad’s hunger remains strong as they look to secure another important victory and continue their impressive start to the campaign.
