Miguel Cardoso Targets Carling Knockout Crown After Marumo Gallants Draw

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has made it clear that his side will approach the Carling Knockout with full determination after being drawn against Marumo Gallants in the Round of 16.

Fresh from lifting the MTN8 trophy, Sundowns are enjoying a strong start to the season, but Cardoso insists there is no room for complacency. The Portuguese mentor stressed that every competition remains important for a club of Sundowns’ stature and that the team is fully focused on adding more silverware to their collection.

Speaking about the upcoming clash against Gallants, Cardoso acknowledged the challenges that knockout football presents. He noted that his team has experienced difficult encounters against the Limpopo-based side before and understands the importance of being clinical when opportunities arise.

Cardoso emphasised that Sundowns will aim to finish the job within regular time, highlighting the unpredictability of penalty shootouts. While confident in his squad’s abilities, he believes the key will be maintaining concentration and delivering a complete performance from start to finish.

The coach also reflected on the demands facing his squad as they compete across multiple competitions this season. With domestic and continental commitments on the calendar, he confirmed that player rotation will continue to play an important role in managing the workload.

According to Cardoso, every player in the squad must remain motivated and prepared for opportunities. He praised the professionalism shown by players who may not always be regular starters, explaining that they can still make decisive contributions when called upon.

Beyond the Carling Knockout, Cardoso also turned his attention to the CAF Champions League, where Sundowns continue their pursuit of continental success. He revealed that the technical team has been carefully studying their upcoming opponents and preparing thoroughly for the challenges ahead.

Despite celebrating recent success in the MTN8, Cardoso remains focused on the road ahead. The Sundowns mentor stressed that football can change quickly and urged his players to stay humble, continue working hard, and maintain their focus as they chase further domestic and continental honours this season.
