Kaizer Motaung Jnr Calls for Unity After Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Confederation Cup Exit

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has moved to rally the Amakhosi family following the club’s disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday.

The Soweto giants saw their continental campaign come to an end, a result that left supporters frustrated as hopes of a deep run in the competition were dashed. However, the club’s leadership has urged everyone associated with Chiefs to remain focused on the bigger picture.

In a detailed statement, Motaung Jnr acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the result while stressing that the club understands the emotions being felt by supporters and stakeholders.

“Following our unfortunate CAF Confederation Cup result, we understand and share the disappointment felt by our supporters, players, staff, and all stakeholders connected to Kaizer Chiefs,” said Motaung Jnr.

He added that competing at continental level naturally comes with great expectations and admitted that frustration is inevitable when those expectations are not met.

“At moments such as these, it is important to maintain perspective and remain committed to the long-term vision we have established for the Club. Success in football is rarely defined by a single match or a single competition.”

The Sporting Director reiterated the club’s support for the technical team, making it clear that the recent result would not change the organization’s confidence in the current coaching staff.

“As a Club, we would like to reaffirm our full support for, and confidence in, the Head Coach and the entire technical team. They continue to have our trust as they lead the implementation of a football philosophy and development pathway that we firmly believe will bring sustainable success.”

Motaung Jnr also praised the dedication and professionalism shown by the coaching team throughout the season, highlighting their commitment to improving the squad on a daily basis.

“Their professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to improving the team every day remain irreproachable. The team is fighting hard every game to uphold a high standard of performance, and yesterday, despite the result and the injuries we carry, that warrior spirit was visible on the field.”

Despite the setback, Chiefs believe meaningful progress is being made behind the scenes as part of a broader sporting project aimed at restoring the club’s status among the top teams in Africa.

“We have made significant progress in key areas of our sporting project, and while setbacks are a natural part of any ambitious journey, they do not alter our conviction in the direction we are taking. We remain aligned behind our objectives, our playing identity, and our long-term plan for success both domestically and on the continent.”

The statement further emphasised that important decisions at the club will continue to be driven by careful analysis rather than emotional reactions to individual results.

“Our responsibility is not to be guided solely by the emotion of an adverse result, but rather by careful analysis, stability, and strategic decision-making. We will continue to evaluate performances honestly, learn from this experience, and make the necessary improvements to ensure continued growth and competitiveness.”

Motaung Jnr also delivered a special message to the club’s supporters, thanking them for their loyalty and unwavering backing during a difficult moment for the team.

“To our supporters, we acknowledge your disappointment and thank you for your steadfast passion and support. The standards at this institution remain as high as ever, and everyone within the football department is fully committed to meeting them.”

He concluded by urging unity across the Kaizer Chiefs community, insisting that the club remains confident in its direction and determined to achieve long-term success.

“Now is the time for unity, not division. We believe in the work being done, we believe in the people leading that work, and we believe the foundations being laid today will deliver the success our supporters deserve. We move forward together with determination, accountability, and confidence in the future.”
