Bafana Bafana Boost! Tshepang Moremi Called Up for Crucial AFCON Qualifiers
Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has moved quickly to reinforce his squad ahead of South Africa’s upcoming international fixtures, with Orlando Pirates winger Tshepang Moremi called up to join the national team camp in Johannesburg.
The call-up comes after Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe was forced to withdraw from the squad due to an ankle injury sustained during club duties over the weekend. Maboe’s withdrawal left a vacancy in the squad, prompting Mosimane and his technical team to turn to Moremi as a replacement.
Moremi arrives in camp carrying valuable international experience despite his age. The pacey winger was part of South Africa’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held across Canada, Mexico and the United States, where he gained exposure to football at the highest level.
His inclusion is a significant vote of confidence from Mosimane, who is preparing for his first competitive matches in charge of the national team. Moremi’s speed, work rate and attacking threat are expected to provide additional options as Bafana Bafana gear up for a demanding international window.
South Africa will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a home fixture against Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday. Following the Guinea clash, Bafana Bafana will travel to Cairo for their second group encounter against Eritrea at Al-Salam Stadium on 30 September before rounding off the international window with a high-profile friendly against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on 4 October.
