Bafana Bafana Arrive Home Triumphant After Perfect Three-Match Sweep

The South African senior men’s national soccer team, Bafana Bafana, touched down at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg early Tuesday morning following a highly successful international break in North Africa.

The squad traveled back from Cairo, Egypt, via Doha, carrying the momentum of a flawless three-match winning streak that has ignited renewed optimism across the country’s football landscape.

A Perfect Window for Pitso Mosimane

Under the guidance of head coach Pitso Mosimane, the national team delivered a masterclass in efficiency and adaptability over the past ten days, securing maximum points in their competitive fixtures before capping it off with a historic friendly victory.

South Africa kicked off the international window with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Guinea at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto, setting a positive tone for the week. The team then traveled to Cairo, where they put on a clinical display to demolish Eritrea 5–0 at the Al-Salam Stadium.

The crown jewel of the trip, however, came on Sunday night at the Cairo International Stadium. Fielding a heavily rotated and youthful side, Mosimane’s tactical prowess was on full display as Bafana Bafana secured a famous 1–0 win over Egypt. 18-year-old debutant Puso Dithejane etched his name into South African football folklore, scoring the match-winning goal in the 52nd minute to stun the Pharaohs on their home turf.

Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualification in Sight

The two competitive victories have placed South Africa in a commanding position at the top of Group D in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

Speaking briefly upon arrival in Johannesburg, coaching staff praised the squad’s discipline and the seamless integration of younger players into the setup, highlighting the depth currently available in the national pool.

Bafana Bafana will enjoy a brief respite before regrouping in November for crucial back-to-back qualifiers against Kenya, where they will look to officially seal their ticket to the 2027 tournament.
