CAF’s Golden Season: Record prize money for #CAFCL and #CAFCC for 2025/26 season
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made history with a landmark announcement that will reshape African club football. On 9 March 2026, CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe confirmed unprecedented increases in prize money for the continent’s premier competitions, the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
CAF Champions League Jackpot
The CAF Champions League winner will now pocket USD 6 million, up from USD 4 million — a 50% increase. This marks the highest payout in the competition’s history and provides a massive incentive for Africa’s elite clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly SC and Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
Under Motsepe’s five-year leadership, the prize money has grown from USD 2.5 million in 2021 to USD 6 million in 2026, representing a 140% increase.
CAF Confederation Cup Doubled
The CAF Confederation Cup winner will now earn USD 4 million, double the previous USD 2 million. This dramatic 100% increase elevates the prestige of Africa’s secondary competition. Since 2021, the prize has risen from USD 1.25 million to USD 4 million, a 220% increase.
Wider Impact Across Africa
- Solidarity Payments: Clubs eliminated in preliminary rounds now receive USD 100,000, up from USD 50,000 in 2025.
- Overall Club Payments: CAF will distribute over USD 42 million per season, compared to USD 18.8 million in 2021 — a 114% increase.
- Participation Record: A record 130 clubs entered the 2025/26 season, reflecting the growing appeal and financial viability of CAF competitions.
This landmark financial injection positions African club football on a stronger global footing, giving teams the resources to compete, retain talent, and inspire the next generation.
