Tshepang Moremi and Lebone Seema Fire Orlando Pirates Past Durban City in Orlando
Orlando Pirates secured an impressive victory over Durban City FC in their Betway Premiership clash at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Thursday, with second-half goals proving the difference between the two sides. After a tightly contested opening period, the Buccaneers found another gear after the break to claim all three points.
The match began with Durban City showing attacking intent and asking questions of the Pirates defence. The hosts were also forced onto the referee’s notebook early when Mthetheleli Mthiyane received a yellow card after a challenge during the opening stages of the encounter.
Durban City continued to compete aggressively and collected several bookings of their own as the first half progressed. Jean Lubumba, Brooklyn Poggenpoel and Kyle Jurgens were all cautioned in a physical contest that saw both teams battle hard for control in midfield.
Despite Durban City’s positive approach and a number of promising moments going forward, neither side was able to find a breakthrough before the interval. The visitors made a change at halftime, introducing Samkelo Maseko in an attempt to add fresh energy to their performance.
Pirates eventually broke the deadlock after the restart when Lebone Seema found the back of the net. The goal gave the Buccaneers greater confidence and allowed them to take charge of proceedings as they searched for a second strike.
The match became increasingly difficult for Durban City as Pirates controlled possession and territory. Simphiwe Masilela was shown a yellow card for the home side, but it did little to disrupt their momentum as they continued to push forward.
The visitors responded with changes from the bench, bringing on Ethan Duncan Brooks and Moegammad Haashim Domingo in an effort to spark a comeback. However, Pirates remained in command and continued to create dangerous opportunities in the attacking third.
Their dominance was rewarded when Tshepang Moremi doubled the advantage with a clinical finish, putting the result beyond doubt. The goal capped a strong attacking display from the Buccaneers and left Durban City with a mountain to climb in the closing stages.
Pirates then refreshed their lineup by introducing Oswin Appollis, Sebastian Pedersen and Simphiwe Selepe, while Durban City responded with the introduction of Bongani Mthembu. More substitutions followed as Mpho Padime and Bheki Mabuza entered the field for the hosts, while Tashreeq Morris was handed minutes for the visitors.
With no further goals before the final whistle, Pirates comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to secure a valuable victory. Goals from Lebone Seema and Tshepang Moremi ultimately sealed a deserved win for the Soweto giants, while Durban City were left to reflect on missed opportunities after a competitive display that yielded no reward.
