Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has praised the South African Under-20 men’s national team, Amajita, following their successful defence of the COSAFA Under-20 Men’s Championship title. The young South Africans once again showcased their quality under coach Raymond Mdaka, overcoming hosts Mozambique 2-1 in the final to lift the regional crown.
Mosimane was quick to congratulate the team for another impressive tournament campaign, highlighting their consistency and determination throughout the competition. Amajita remained unbeaten on their way to glory, further strengthening their reputation as one of the continent’s most promising youth sides.
The Bafana Bafana mentor believes the success achieved by the national youth team is no coincidence. According to Mosimane, the foundations have been laid through strong development structures that continue to produce talented players capable of competing at the highest level.
He pointed specifically to the DStv Diski Challenge and the Gauteng Development League, describing them as vital platforms in the growth of young footballers. Mosimane noted that these structures have created an environment where players are consistently exposed to high-level competition from an early age.
The experienced coach also praised the quality of competition within the Gauteng Development League, where some of South Africa’s biggest clubs play a major role in nurturing future stars. He explained that the league has become a reliable pathway that supplies talent to various national teams before players eventually reach Bafana Bafana.
Mosimane further stressed that the country’s youth football system is functioning effectively because it allows talented youngsters to progress through the ranks in a structured manner. He believes this continuous production of talent is crucial for the long-term success of South African football.
While celebrating Amajita’s latest achievement, Mosimane emphasised that development should remain a priority. He urged stakeholders to continue investing in youth football and strengthening the platforms that have contributed to the team’s recent accomplishments.
The Bafana Bafana coach concluded by congratulating Raymond Mdaka, his technical team and the players for their outstanding achievement. Mosimane expressed confidence that the success enjoyed by Amajita will inspire the next generation of South African footballers and contribute positively to the future of the senior national team.
