Moses Mabhida Ready as Authorities Unveil Matchday Plans for MTN8 Final

With anticipation building ahead of the sold-out MTN8 Final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, league organisers hosted a comprehensive pre-match briefing to outline key safety, security, transport, and logistical arrangements for supporters travelling to Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The press conference brought together representatives from several stakeholder organisations, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS), Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), eThekwini Municipality, MTN8 organisers, and ticketing partner Open Tickets. The objective was to ensure fans are fully informed before heading to one of the country’s biggest football occasions.

Officials confirmed that Moses Mabhida Stadium is fully prepared to host the high-profile encounter, with all compliance and operational requirements in place. Supporters attending the match were reminded that the final has completely sold out, leaving no tickets available for purchase.

As a result, authorities cautioned fans without valid tickets against travelling to the stadium precinct. Instead, they encouraged those unable to secure entry to make use of the designated public viewing area at Bay of Plenty, where they can still enjoy the atmosphere surrounding the occasion.

Organisers also stressed the importance of arriving at the venue early to avoid congestion and lengthy queues. Fans are expected to begin gathering hours before kick-off, with entertainment and other activities planned around the stadium precinct before the match gets underway.

Ticketing processes formed a major part of the briefing, with Open Tickets reminding supporters that all match tickets are digital. Fans were urged to download their tickets onto their mobile devices before leaving home to help prevent delays at access gates and ensure a smoother entry process.

Security agencies outlined a robust operational plan designed to maintain order throughout the event. SAPS and Durban Metro Police confirmed that law enforcement officers will be deployed around the stadium and surrounding areas to manage crowds, traffic flow, and public safety.

Authorities also issued a warning regarding the use of drones near the venue, confirming that the area surrounding the stadium will operate under strict aviation restrictions. They further indicated that regulations surrounding public drinking, unauthorized access, and spectator conduct will be enforced throughout matchday.

Transport arrangements were another key focus of the briefing. PRASA detailed various park-and-ride options and rail services that will be available to assist supporters travelling to and from the stadium. Organisers believe the transport plan will help ease traffic pressure and provide convenient alternatives to private vehicles.

As excitement reaches fever pitch ahead of the blockbuster clash between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, organisers reiterated their commitment to delivering a safe and enjoyable experience for all spectators. Supporters have been urged to cooperate with officials, follow matchday guidelines, and arrive prepared as South African football’s first major trophy of the season goes on the line in Durban.
