Abdeslam Ouaddou Slams Orlando Pirates Despite Comfortable Milford FC Victory
Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou delivered a brutally honest assessment of his team’s performance despite watching them secure a convincing victory over Milford FC in the Carling Knockout Cup at the Orlando Amstel Arena.
The Buccaneers comfortably progressed to the next round of the competition, but Ouaddou made it clear that the result alone was not enough to satisfy him. The coach revealed his disappointment with the manner in which his side approached key moments of the match, insisting that much more was expected from a club of Pirates’ stature.
Speaking during his post-match press conference, Ouaddou argued that his players failed to fully capitalize on the opportunities they created. While pleased with the progression to the next stage, he believed the scoreline did not accurately reflect the dominance his team enjoyed throughout the contest.
The Pirates mentor stressed that wearing the club’s badge comes with enormous responsibility and high expectations. He emphasized that every player must embrace a winning mentality and continuously strive for excellence regardless of the opposition or competition.
Ouaddou was particularly critical of his team’s inability to show greater ruthlessness in front of goal. He pointed to missed chances and lost duels as areas that require immediate improvement, warning that such shortcomings could prove costly against stronger opposition.
The coach also sent a strong message to players fighting for opportunities within the squad. He stated that every chance to impress must be seized, making it clear that places in the team cannot be guaranteed and must be earned through consistent performances.
Beyond the tactical aspects, Ouaddou spoke passionately about the values he wants to build at Orlando Pirates. He highlighted pride, discipline, respect for the club, and commitment to the badge as the foundations of the culture he is trying to establish within the dressing room.
Despite his criticism, the Pirates coach reserved praise for Katlego Maseko, commending the attacker’s work ethic, fighting spirit, and recent performances. Ouaddou expressed admiration for the player’s contribution and suggested that his form deserves recognition at a higher level as Pirates continue their pursuit of silverware.
