Nkosinathi Sibisi Confident Orlando Pirates Are Ready for Kaizer Chiefs Challenge
Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has stressed that his side is fully focused on the challenge that awaits them against Kaizer Chiefs in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium. Speaking during the Betway Premiership derby press briefing, Sibisi made it clear that form and recent results will count for little once the two rivals step onto the pitch.
The Pirates skipper reflected on the team’s growth over recent seasons, describing both victories and disappointments as important lessons in the squad’s development. He believes those experiences have helped the players mature and prepared them for the demands of major matches at domestic and continental level.
Sibisi also addressed criticism suggesting that the current Pirates squad lacks experience. According to the defender, the team views difficult moments as opportunities to learn and improve, with every challenge helping the players become better equipped for high-pressure situations.
The captain spoke highly of the standards demanded by the technical team, explaining that the coaches are always pushing players to improve regardless of results. He said the focus is not simply on winning matches but on achieving excellence in every aspect of performance.
Sibisi further revealed that players are encouraged to express themselves on the field while remaining committed to the team’s objectives. He explained that individual flair is welcomed, provided it contributes to positive results and is backed by hard work and discipline.
Turning his attention to the Soweto Derby, Sibisi warned against taking Chiefs lightly despite Pirates enjoying strong momentum. He acknowledged that derby matches have a unique nature and often ignore recent form, making preparation and concentration vital.
The Pirates captain said his side expects a tough contest and is ready for any approach Chiefs may bring. Rather than becoming distracted by physical battles or outside noise, Pirates will focus on creating opportunities and imposing their own style of play throughout the encounter.
Looking beyond the derby, Sibisi reiterated the club’s ambitions in the CAF Champions League. He expressed excitement about the campaign ahead and emphasized the squad’s determination to compete at the highest level as Pirates continue chasing success on both the domestic and continental stage.
