Miguel Cardoso Hails Mamelodi Sundowns Resilience After Marumo Gallants Victory

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso expressed relief and pride after his side secured a hard-fought win over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The Portuguese coach highlighted the character shown by his players as they responded to recent disappointment and booked their place in the next round.

Speaking after the match, Cardoso admitted the squad had been carrying emotional stress following an unfavourable result in their previous outing. He praised the players for staying united during a difficult period and finding a way to deliver a positive result when it mattered most.

The Sundowns mentor said the victory was built on resilience rather than fluency, acknowledging that his team had to dig deep throughout the encounter. He felt the players showed strong mentality and commitment despite the challenges they faced before and during the match.

Cardoso also reflected on the overall performance, explaining that emotional circumstances had an impact on the team’s usual rhythm and flow. He added that tactical adjustments became necessary after changes had to be made during the game, making it difficult for the team to fully control proceedings.

The coach stressed that Sundowns are currently going through a rebuilding process. Several key players have been unavailable, forcing the technical team to adapt while giving opportunities to other members of the squad.

Despite those setbacks, Cardoso believes the group continues to grow stronger with each challenge. He emphasized that success will come through collective effort, patience, and maintaining belief in the team’s objectives throughout the campaign.

The Brazilians’ coach also reserved special praise for the club’s supporters. Cardoso thanked the fans for standing by the team and urged them to continue providing the energy and backing that have helped the players through a demanding period.

Looking ahead, Cardoso made it clear that the focus now shifts to upcoming domestic and continental commitments. While acknowledging the difficulties posed by injuries and absences, he insisted that Sundowns must maintain a winning mentality and continue building momentum as they pursue success on multiple fronts.
