Fernando Da Cruz Praises Kaizer Chiefs Efficiency After Knockout Triumph

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz praised his side’s efficiency in front of goal after they secured an emphatic victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

The Amakhosi mentor was pleased with the response from his players, especially considering the short turnaround from their previous match. Da Cruz said the team showed determination and maturity to recover quickly and deliver a convincing performance in front of their supporters.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, the Chiefs coach admitted his side did not start the match at their best. He noted that the opening stages were difficult, but the team gradually settled into the game and began to take control of possession and territory.

According to Da Cruz, the key improvement came after the break when Chiefs increased their tempo and made better decisions in attacking areas. He felt the players displayed greater composure around the penalty area, allowing them to convert their opportunities and put the match beyond their opponents.

The coach also singled out striker Wandile Duba for praise. Da Cruz highlighted the youngster’s movement and ability to create problems for defenders, while also stressing that continued hard work and consistency will be important in his development.

Defender Rushwin Dortley was another player to receive recognition from the Chiefs boss. Da Cruz spoke highly of Dortley’s technical ability, physical presence, and confidence on the ball, adding that his qualities helped the team build attacks from the back.

Beyond the result, Da Cruz expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the club’s management and sporting department. He emphasised the importance of maintaining strong communication with the leadership as Chiefs continue working toward their long-term objectives.

The coach also acknowledged the challenges posed by injuries within the squad but insisted that the group remains focused on building a winning culture. Da Cruz believes the blend of experienced players and emerging talent is moving in the right direction and hopes the victory will provide further confidence for the matches ahead.
