PSL Reschedules Kaizer Chiefs’ Carling Knockout Quarter-Final

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed a significant scheduling change to this weekend’s Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final fixtures, with Kaizer Chiefs’ highly anticipated clash against Siwelele FC moved to a later kick-off time.

Originally scheduled to kick off at 15:00 on Sunday, the quarter-final encounter at Peter Mokaba Stadium will now get underway at 18:00. The adjustment comes as South African football prepares for a busy day featuring both domestic cup action and continental competition.

The change was announced by the PSL in an official statement released on Thursday. The league explained that the decision was made to accommodate Mamelodi Sundowns’ involvement in the CAF Super Cup on the same day.

“The Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final match between Kaizer Chiefs and Siwelele FC has been rescheduled, with kick-off moved from 15h00 to 18h00,” the PSL said.

The league further clarified the reason behind the decision, stating: “The adjustment has been made in consideration of Sunday’s CAF Super Cup fixture involving Mamelodi Sundowns.”

As a result of the schedule revision, supporters will now be able to follow both Sundowns’ continental assignment and the domestic cup action without a time clash affecting viewership and attendance.

The PSL also confirmed that the scheduling adjustment impacts both Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals taking place on Sunday. “Consequently, both Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final matches scheduled for Sunday will now kick off at 18h00,” the statement added.

That means Stellenbosch FC’s quarter-final showdown against AmaZulu FC at Danie Craven Stadium will also begin at 18:00, matching the revised kick-off time for the Chiefs-Siwelele encounter.

Saturday’s quarter-final fixture between Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United remains unchanged. The defending Carling Knockout champions will host Babina Noko at Orlando Amstel Arena, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

The PSL also extended its support to Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their continental challenge. “The PSL wishes Mamelodi Sundowns all the best as they compete for CAF Super Cup honours and extends its best wishes to all eight teams competing in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals.”

Meanwhile, tickets for all Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final matches remain available online through Open Tickets at R100 each. With places in the semi-finals at stake and a packed weekend of football awaiting supporters, fans can look forward to an exciting mix of cup drama on home soil and continental action featuring Sundowns.
